CAPTURING AN ITALIAN MOMENT
by Shannon Stirone
“The island of Burano, near Venice, is famous for its colourful buildings. A casual stroll through its narrow a
lleyways brought me to an enclosed space between buildings where laundry was hung to dry. What struck me about it was how well the colours of the clothes complemented the colourful buildings. When I think of the 'real' Italy, I picture laundry blowing in the wind on a beautiful day.”
“Happy Laundry” was a finalist in the 2011 Accenti Magazine Photo Contest, and was displayed during Montreal’s Italian Week held in Montreal’s Little Italy in August 2011.
Shannon Stirone is a photographer in Fairfax, California. She majored in art history, specializing in the Italian Renaissance, and spent several months studying abroad. She is partly of Italian descent, and loves the culture and the people of Italy. Recently, her work took her to the Sundance Film Festival.
